A Thousand Foot Fall

I look down at my legs
Dangling over the edge
Of a thousand foot cliff.

Falling
Backward through space and time
Past my own birth
And death
A thousand times
I see myself
I pass myself
So many times
The river reverses.

The dead return
Swelling the ranks
Of the living dead
With the merely living.

They dance in the darkness
That is my swollen iris.
With morning light
The stage is extinguished.

The sun comes up angry
Burning
Turning
It will deny
Food to the hungry
Water for thirst.

Rainbows in bubbles
Lift up and burst.
